Comprehensive Assessment
- Meet the consumer and get a summary of the consumer’s disabilities and related impediments to employment.
- Discuss the services the consumer has already received or will be receiving in the near future related to vocational rehabilitation and employment.
- Assess the consumer’s need for rehabilitation technology or job aids.
- Discuss the consumer’s available resources, benefits, and supports the consumer has related to employment.
- Discuss how work will impact benefits and insurance.
Career Planning and Job Readiness
- Discuss what going back to work means to the consumer.
- Discuss what the workforce is like.
- Set expectations of what type of job the consumer would like and would be suited to do.
- Give the consumer information regarding appropriate dress and grooming as needed.
- Review of appropriate work behavior.
Job Search Assistance
- Identify jobs available meeting the consumer’s abilities and job type wanted.
- Aid in resume preparation if needed.
- Develop interview skills if needed.
- Aid in applying for jobs and following up with prospective employers.
- Aid in hiring process if needed.
Once Hired
- Make sure the consumer has all employment information including: start date, location, job title, and wages/benefits.
- Make sure consumer has transportation lined up to begin working.
- Schedule follow-ups contact at 15, 30, 60, 90 days, or as needed.
Ongoing Employment Support
- Discuss budgeting and the importance of saving money.
- Discuss communication with coworkers and supervisors for job retention/promotion.
- Make sure the consumer has reasonable job accommodation(s) provided if necessary.
- Make sure paystubs are submitted timely to SSA if necessary.
- Provide benefit counseling as consumers continue working.
CSP, Inc. has a Community Partner Work Incentive Counselor (CPWIC) on staff capable of advising you on your benefits as related to employment, advising you on work incentives available to you, and advising you on special job accommodations available to you.
Also by assigning your “Ticket to Work,” medical reviews will be suspended as long as you are making timely progress on work related goals. You can maintain Medicare and Medicaid for an extended period of time if cash payments stop.
